NOA Tasks Nigerians On Maintainance Culture

ABUJA - Alhaji Idi Faruk, Director General of the National Orientation Agency, has called on Nigerians to imbibe the culture of maintainance and preservation of all national monuments, building and critical infrastructure.

Faruk said this on Wednesday in Abuja at a two-day national stakeholders conference on maintainance culture with the theme: “Maintainance Culture for sustainable development”.
He decried the nonchalant attitude of Nigerians to public property over the years.

“It is unfortunate that at individual and institution level, this attitude has remained pervasive.”
“The direct consequence of this has been the many years of gradual deterioration and collapse of the nation’s most valuable infrastructure,” he said.

He said the nation was spending billions of naira to rehabilitate or completely rebuild those infrastructure with a dire consequences on economic and social development.

Faruk called on Nigerians to make a New Year resolution in 2009 to place premium on the maintainence of their personal and public property.

“We are pointedly interested in changing the attitude of Nigerians. It is only in this way that we can create the right environment in which the Seven-point Agenda of Mr. President can be realised,’’ he said.
