Ogun To Provide Intra-city Bus Service

ABEOKUTA- Government of Ogun State plans to provide intra-city buses for easy movement of commuters to and from the new Kuto garage sited about 10 Km away from Abeokuta metropolis.

Reports say that the Kuto garage was closed down by the state government following the July 29 bloody clash between factional leaders of the NURTW, in which five people were killed and a correspondent of NAN seriously injured.

The motor park had remained closed since then, while government is developing a new site about 10 kilometres from the present park on the Shiun-Kobape road.

Prince Lekan Tejuosho, Commissioner for Cooperatives and Community Development who is in charge of developing the new park, told newsmen that government was worried about the dangerous dimension, the activities of the NURTW was assuming.

“The governor of Ogun State had the plan to move the Kuto motor park long before now.
“If you look at Kuto right now, it is chocked and the site of the new area is about 5,000 hectares of land.

“If you go down the history, when Kuto was moved to where it is now, it was way out of town. Now development has caught up with it.

“Commuters coming into the new park will find it easy to take intra-city buses and taxi cabs to town,” he said.

Tejuosho added that government was taking appropriate measures to ensure ease of movement of commuters from the new park to the town.
