WARRI: The Delta State Police Command have announced the arrest of some members of Uvwie Youth Association in connection with the recent killing of two policemen alongside the wanton destruction of lives and property.
The problem started when the King of Uvwie community was allegedly used by corrupt politicians.
According to our source, "the politicians bribed the King so that their candidates and persons will be chosen by King to represent Uvwie people in any elective offices. The youths of the community protested against it and when the politicians who were bent on having their way because of their ill-gotten wealth, the youth protested and the police were invited and when the police started to shoot to dispersed the crowd thereby injuring several protesters, the protesters then turned violent.
"The orgy of destruction let to the killing of two policemen and destruction and burning down of the politicians' houses", the source said.
The dead policemen were said to have been deployed along with a team of other policemen to Uvwie community to control civil unrest which broke out as a result of the crisis.
Those arrested are Monday Iyema, Oduwu Erijo, Eke Otas and Efe Osaremen.
According to a police statement, the crisis following the political upheaval in Uvwie community led to the destruction of several houses were destroyed and burnt down.
The police command also stated in their statement that following the arrest of these people, they will be prosecuted soon to explain their level of involvement inthe crisis.
The statement further said that the leader of the youth association, Eddy Nosa and some other members of the group, still at large, are wanted to face prosecution. The other fleeing members of the Uvwie Youth Association are Ese Godwin, Emada Ogie, Peter Eddy, Erewa Tracy, Blessing Osaro and Kelly Nosa.
The Delta state police command has therefore appealed to members of the public with useful information that could lead to the arrest of those persons to please contact the police headquarters.
