ABUJA - Dr Rashid Aderinloye, a Lecturer at the Department of Education, University of Ibadan , has called for a national task force for the eradication of illiteracy in the country.
Aderinloye in a paper entitled “A Comparative Analysis of NON-Formal Education in the Global Community; Lessons for Nigeria ’’, said the task force should be under the leadership of the president. He said this would replicate what President Fidel Castro
of Cuba did in that country in the drive to eradicate
illiteracy between 1980 and 1981.
The don also spoke of the need for a roundtable conference among the various stakeholders in education to see the possibility of the merger of the Universal Basic Education Commission with the National Commission for Nomadic Education and the Commission for Adult and Non-Formal Education.
He urged the National Assembly to review the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Law to provide for a National Fund for Education (NFE).
