JOS - No fewer than 1,000 students in the Plateau-North Senatorial Zone are to enjoy scholarship sponsored by Senator Gyang Dantong.
Dantong made this known in Jos when he paid a courtesy visit to the
Plateau State Acting
Governor, Mrs Pauline Tallen, at the Government
House, Jos.
He expressed regret that more than 1,500 JSSIII and SSSIII students from the zone were at the verge of dropping out of school due to financial hardship.
According to him, 10 JSSIII and SSSIII students from each of the 73 wards from the zone will benefit from the scheme.
The Senator said 92 science students from the State Polytechnic and 100 teachers from the State studying at the National Teachers Institute (NTI) would also benefit from the scholarship. He explained that the gesture was to help the poor students in order to salvage their future. Dantong pointed out that government alone could not revamp the collapsed state of education in Plateau and called on other political office holders to assist the government. Responding, the acting governor, Tallen, commended the Senator for his kind gesture and urged other spirited individuals and organisations to emulate his gesture. Tallen stressed the commitment of the state government to uplift the educational standards.
