USELU- The Chairman of Egor Local Government Council, Hon. Crosby Osadolor Eribo, has assented to a Bye-law to provide for the preservation, protection and maintenance of monuments, artefact and other related matters.
Assenting to the bill which had earlier been passed into a bye-law by the Legislative Assembly, Hon. Eribo expressed delight that the bye-law would go a long way to enlighten the people about the need to cherish and protect the monuments and artefact in the locality which serve as the cultural identity of the people.
The council boss commended members of the Egor Legislative Assembly for their foresight and for working tirelessly to ensure the early passage of the bye-law.
Earlier, the chief sponsor of the bill that gave birth to the bye-law, Hon. Osaretin Olaye (Ward 04), said he was inspired to sponsor the bye-law due to the gross misuse that had become of the Benin Moat and the various monuments and artefact across Egor Local Government Area.
Hon. Olaye remarked that the misuse of the moat had resulted in flooding which had also destroyed property and rendered many residents homeless.
The councillor noted current drive to beautify the environment by both the state and local governments, and advised the people to desist from placing sacrificial materials on structures that had been strategically designed and fitted to beautify the locality.
