LAGOS -Omatek Computers, an indigenous computer firm, is to provide 350 laptops to some Lagos State civil servants.
The commencement of the distribution started at the Lagos State secretariat on Tuesday.
Miss Adenike Adetosoye, Omatek Sales Manager, told newsmen that beneficiaries would pay for the laptops on installments, adding that the gesture was in furtherance of the company’s mission statement of “one computer for every Nigerian family by 2010.
“Omatek intends to lead in computer literacy revolution in Nigeria in a way that will stun other competitors,” she said, adding that Omatek had extended similar gestures to civil servants in nine states including Oyo, Abia, Cross River and Abuja.
Mr. Richard Aromolashe, Vice Chairman, Association of Senior Civil Servants in Lagos, expressed happiness over the development and thanked the company for assisting workers to buy computers without tears.
“The good side of this is that you are allowed to go home with the laptop immediately,” he said, explaining that payment would be effected through deductions from workers’ salaries over a period of 12 to 24 months.
