EKET (AKWA IBOM) -Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN), operator of NNPC/MPN joint venture, has short listed 1,862 undergraduates for scholarship in 2008/2009.

The scholarship examination has been scheduled for Nov. 8 in Uyo, Port Harcourt , Lagos , Ibadan , Owerri , Benin and Kaduna.

Mr. Yemi Fakayejo, MPN Public Affairs Manager, advised the Short-listed candidates to report at the designated centres at 8 a.m. with originals and photocopies of their credentials as well as writing materials.

He said that MPN was giving Agricultural Science special consideration in the scholarship scheme in response to the global food crisis.

According to him, only first and second-year students of Nigerian universities studying petroleum, mechanical, chemical, electrical/electronics, civil engineering are qualified to take the examination.

Others are students of geology/geophysics, medicine, agricultural sciences and related fields.

Fakayejo said that 500 undergraduates would be selected and awarded scholarships at the end of the test.

“At the end of the selection exercise, 500 scholarships would be awarded, out of this, 250 would go to Akwa Ibom while a proportion of this has been reserved for our host communities of Ibeno, Onna Eket, and Esit Eket local government areas,’’ he said.

He said that Mobil had awarded 2,000 university scholarships in the country within the past four years as part of its educational development support initiative.
