ABUJA - Professor Thomas Fasokun of the Obafemi Awolowo University ,Ile Ife, has called on the Federal and state governments to dedicate three per cent of their education budgets to adult literacy.
Fasokun in an interview with newsmen in Abuja said this had become compelling in the nation’s drive toward the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals of Education for All (EFA).
He said where the two tiers of government deliver on this commitment, the International donors should fill any remaining resources gap in the effort to have a literate population.
“Governments have the lead responsibility in meeting the right to adult literacy and in providing leadership, policy frameworks, the enabling environment and the resources,” the don said.
“They should ensure cooperation across all relevant ministries and linkages in all relevant programmes.
