BENIN CITY ––Edo State House of Assembly has received the report of the Ad-Hoc Committee investigating the causes of the mayhem at Egor Local Government Council on Friday, October 5, 2008
Presenting the committee’s report at yesterday’s plenary session of the House, its Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Okoduwa, stated that in the cause of investigation, the committee arrived at 10 findings and five recommendations.
Part of the recommendations according to Hon. Okoduwa, is to the effect that the suspension order placed on the council chairman by the parliament, should be lifted since the parties concerned in the crisis had all agreed to settlement.
The committee further recommended that the displaced Vice Chairman of the council, Hon. Kinsgsley Igbe, should resume as vice chairman of the place as directed by the state House of Assembly, while the other claimant to the office of the Vice Chairman, Hon. Pullen Igbinosun should be barred from holding any political office in the council area throughout the tenure of the subsisting executive of the council.
Similarly, the Treasurer to the council area, Mr. Kessington Osifo should be redeployed to other council following his role in the implementation of the House resolution at the council.
The committee concluded its recommendation by saying that the suspended Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Crosby Eribo should tender an unreserved apology to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Zakawanu Garuba and members of the parliament.
Upon the receipt of the report, the Speaker, Rt. Hon, Zakawanu Garuba deferred the consideration of the report till today, Tuesday, November 4, 2008, to enable members get copy of the report.
The meeting, which is expected to hold at the Mike Akhigbe Hall, would have in attendance, the House Standing Committee on Finance and Appropriation as well as that of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Agenda at the meeting according to the Speaker would centre on the issue concerning the implementation of the public officer emolument law as well as payment of emolument to past political office holders.
The meeting is expected to commence from 1:00 p.m prompt on the said date.
