EDHA adopts motion to review PHC centres

By FRIDAY OBANOR

BENIN CITY – A motion calling for the review of the Local Government Primary Health Care Centres in Edo State towards a more operative Primary Health Care delivery, has been adopted by the State House of Assembly.

Sponsored by Hon. Bright Noghayin Osayande (Ovia North East II) and six others, the House further resolved that more medical personnel be employed to reactivate the Primary Health Care Centres in the local areas of the state.

In the same vein, the motion is to ensure that the various local government councils in the state put machinery in place at reactivating the decayed infrastructure in the various primary health centres in their various areas of jurisdiction.

Seconded by Hon. Peter Aliu (Etsako East), the prime mover of the motion in substantiating the reason for the motion, stated that the essence of government was the protection of lives and property of citizens, adding that provision of good and affordable health care was the hallmark of good governance.

The lawmaker further submitted that it was the responsibility of government to provide good and affordable health care service for its citizenry at all levels, stressing that good health services required the provision of adequate manpower in terms of doctors, nurses and the medical staff.

Contributing, Hon. Bright Omokhodion (Esan West), noted that a healthy mind could only exist in a healthy body so there was need for the establishment of functional health centres equipped with the right medical personnel for the purpose of meeting the health needs of the people at the grassroots level.

While Hon. Mandy Israel Aguele (Esan South East) said that primary health centres were the first point of call in anticipation to get medication, Hon. Christopher Adesotu (Ovia South West) submitted that one of the primary responsibilities of the local government chairman was to have health centres in all the villages across his domain.
