ABEOKUTA- The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has gone multimedia in its news gathering and dissemination, the Managing Director, Mrs. Oluremi Oyo announced this in Abeokuta.
Oyo, who spoke at the opening of the Agency’s first Zonal Editorial Conference, said audio and services were being incorporated into NAN news products.
She said that the ongoing transformation, which started in 2007, necessitated the theme of the conference: “Vision for the New NAN’’.
She said that state-of-the-art ICT equipment had also been installed to enhance the
operations of the Agency and ensure efficient service delivery.
Oyo said the welfare of staff was also being given priority to boost morale.
According to Oyo, the capital intensive nature of the agency has made it necessary for the management to appeal for assistance from Ogun State government, particularly in the provision of logistics and computers.
She commended the government for its contribution toward hosting the conference, which, she observed, was in line with NAN’s management’s decision to provide adequate training for its staff.
Mr. Kayode Samuel, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, had in his opening remarks, commended NAN for its leadership in the dissemination of accurate information.
He said the ongoing training programme would go a long way in updating the skills of staff.
