LAGOS-President Yar’ Adua has commended the Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro, for resuscitating the Nigeria Police Games which held last eight years ago in Bauchi.
Yar ‘Adua was represented at the closing of the week-long Nigeria Police Games, tagged `Eko 2008’, on Saturday in Lagos by Dr. Alhassan Zaku, the acting Minister of Sports.
The president urged the I-G to continue to organise the Games to discover more sports talents for Nigeria like Samuel Peters, Sunday Onyarekhua, Chioma Ajunwa-Oparah, Sunday Bada and Kikelomo Ajayi.
Earlier, Okiro hailed the president for approving the hosting of the West Africa Police Games (WAPOG) by Nigeria next year.
Okiro assured that the next biennial Games would be better than the Lagos Games.
The Force Headquarters (FHQ) came first with 105 medals comprising 50 gold, 24 silver and 31 bronze, followed by Zone Six with 110 medals consisting of 42 gold, 32 silver and 36 bronze. Zone Five came third with 101 medals, 40 gold, 30 silver and 31 bronze while Zone Two, placed fourth with 39 gold, 59 silver and 50 bronze medals.
