Give Nigerian Women A Chance

By MONDAY ESON

Who said that you are not a politician if you are the chancellor of a university? Who said that you are not a politician if you are the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces? If you are the head of the Economic Planning team, who said that you are not a politician? As a Minister of Agriculture or Works or Heads of different institutions, who said that you are not a politician? As a Taxi driver, Technical Director, or Civil Servant, you are a politician.

Afterall, there is this saying that all humans are political animals. Let us ask ourselves whether this adage is true or false? The only difference is that the running of government must be done by those who are qualified to carry out this function. Let us endeavour to involve competent persons to run government offices from now till the next eight to twelve years and let’s see the transformation that we can put in place into our body politics.

The Nigerian women must be used in government offices. These should be women who are educated and having personal qualities.

Observation shows that except for a few that have been lured into unpatriotic acts the women would not be involved in the kill and divide pattern of sharing public funds., the women show minimal risk to national development on our excremental scale and also have demonstrated more constructive attitudes to enhancing progress and growth, in addition to their divine role of human multiplication. As mothers, they have been fore-ordained to carry out this progressive role, nature demands their role more in the Nigerian administrative programmes, even if it means to emphasise the concept of equality which is an aspect of meaningful democracy.

Some men have been found to misuse their position in office. Apart from abusing women in office, they have used public funds for personal interests. They marry more wives, have more children, and thus having more nuclear responsibilities and engage in fraudulent acts to meet up personal obligations. They are far from public considerations.

Here lies another factor that has affected development for public interest or what we may refer to as national consideration. Majority of us seem to be caught in this web, but this cannot be allowed to continue. Hence, we have to consider this discussion: it is for the general good of all now to consider this season for a change.

This is the season of change. This is the time for a change in our individual and collative lifestyle in this country. This is the time to use the concept of transparency, responsibility and accountability to help build ourselves and our country great. The world around us are watching us as Nigerians and how much we understand of the principle of democracy and how we are going to move forward after nine years of the foundation of democratic system of government.

We must all stand firm to the challenges of this time and to the challenges of life. From a global outlook, on the rating of women in official conducts, they show a higher affinity to office responsibilities. Observation shows that there has never been one responsible woman getting married to many men. And for a considerable rate of advancement of the European and American Economies of today, they have used the potentials of educated and responsible women as checks and balances to bring about a social order and responsibility.

This is the time for Nigeria’s new civil government to use the potentials of the Nigerian women to achieve the concept of a new social order for a new Nigerian character. Women are the mothers and the builders of any progressive nation.

Mr. president and his team and concerned Nigerians, let us test theories and concept that could help to ensure a stable society now., it is sad that amongstall governors in the thirty six states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, there is no female governor. Give the WOMEN A CHANCE in this CIVILIAN GOVERNMENT. This is the season of change. This is the time to prove our understanding of the concept of gender “equality” and to apply it to ourselves as a people of one nation.

What a man can do, a woman can do it also and sometimes, somehow do it better. Don’t ask me how? Let us try this framework, the Nigerian women education must not be purportedly allowed to end up in the kitchen. Involve the educated and the talented women in the running of affairs of governance in Nigeria now.

And to the women, what are we waiting for? Are we really going to end up our careers in the kitchen? Let us wake up now and join to build Nigeria great. We wish to appreciate the efforts of the few that have been in acting capacities. Bravo! More to your efforts. This is the season of change.
