NDDC Boss Wants interventionist Agencies Established

AKURE - Dr Ibukun Omotehinse, the Commissioner representing Ondo State in the NDDC, has appealed to the oil producing states to set up interventionist agencies that will take care of the rural communities.

Omotehinse said that such agencies, such as the State Oil Producing Area Development Commissions, would assist in meeting the needs of the rural people.

He told newsmen in Akure that the measure had become necessary in order to increase the number of government interventionist agencies already in operation.

The NDDC boss also said that establishing such agencies would go a long way in tackling the menace of youth restiveness in the Niger Delta region.

Omotehinse said such agencies at the state level should be made to work hand in hand with other relevant agencies such as the NDDC and the newly established Ministry of Niger Delta.

He said all the agencies should work together because infrastructure and human capital
development were what the people of the region needed and that working together would guard against duplication.

The NDDC commissioner said that human capital development should be the major focus of the state interventionist agencies in order to increase the level of education in the region.

He explained that a high level of education on the part of youths would go a long way in reducing restiveness and insensitivity to government programmes.

The commissioner appealed to the Federal Government to interact with the people of the Niger Delta by setting up the necessary machinery for dialogue.
