Choir competition ends in Benin City

BENIN CITY– The grand finale of the first Edo Youth choir competition ended in Benin City on Tuesday with the winners, cultural troupe of Living Faith Church (aka Winners Chapel), emerging as the overall best.


The event which featured live performance by all the choirs had Secretary to Oredo Local Government Council, Hon. Alex Osayi who represented the chairman, Deacon Mike Ehima, as chairman of the occasion.


For emerging overall best choir, the Winners Cultural troupe was rewarded with the sum of N300,000.


The first runners up, Grace Singers of the St. Maria Gorretti Catholic Church, Benin City was rewarded with N200,000 while the second runners up, the Bethel Voices of Christ Apostolic Church also of Benin City was rewarded with N100,000 and consolation prizes for other choirs.


The competition, organised by the office of the Special Adviser to Edo State Governor on Youth and Students Affairs, Hon. Nosa Omorodion, spanned three weeks and it featured choirs from churches across the three senatorial districts of the state.


Edo State Governor, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor who was represented at the occasion by the Special Adviser on Sanitation and Beautification, Hon. (Mrs.) Pat Adamu said that the event offered an avenue for interaction among people from different parts of the state.


On his part, Hon. Nosa Omorodion remarked that the competition was one in the series of activities lined up by the state government for developing youths in the state.


According to Hon. Omorodion, the state government acknowledges the fact that the church is a repository of hidden talents and therefore appreciated Professor Osunbor for identifying with the choir contest.
