SOKOTO- The Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Muktari Shagari, yesterday in Sokoto appealed to the media to analyse the seven-point agenda of the Federal Government.
Shagari stated this when the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN ) Mrs. Oluremi Oyo paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
He said that when the media focused more on the 7-point agenda, Nigerians would appreciate it the better and support government’s development progammes.
He said that the media should concentrate less on filing reports about corruption, armed robbery and other vices in the country and concentrate more on helping the administration to develop the country.
Shagari expressed regret that there were “too many negative stories about the country and its people’’, and appealed to the
media to help in building a better image for the country.
He advised that Nigerians must think of the country first before their tribes or states of origin, pointing out that, former President Olusegun Obasanjo had taught all those that worked with him to be nationalistic in their outlook.
He said that as much as possible, Sokoto State was trying to unify the country by carrying along all Nigerians resident in the state.
“It is only in Sokoto that you have a non-indigene as a Permanent Secretary,’’ the deputy governor said.
He also said that education was free for every resident of the state.
