Egor LG chairman resumes duty

By MATTHEW OKAGHA

BENIN CITY – The Chairman of Egor Local Government Council, Hon. Crosby Osadolor Eribo has declared that there “is no victor, no vanquished” over the political crisis which engulfed the council area recently and which culminated in his suspension by the state legislature.

Hon. Eribo who resumed duties yesterday following the pardon granted him by Parliament, said that he was determined more than ever before, to entrench the ideals of excellent leadership, democracy and participatory governance in the locality.

The council boss expressed gratitude to God, members of the state House of Assembly and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party both at the senatorial and local government levels for ensuring that the issues that led to his suspension were quickly and amicably resolved.

Hon. Eribo explained that the lifting of the suspension order clamped on him was predicated on the report of the House Ad-Hoc Committee that looked into the crisis which erupted in the council Secretariat on October 5, 2008 and his subsequent apology to Mr. Speaker as demanded by Parliament.

He debunked any insinuation that the lifting of the suspension order had some monetary inducement, but rather was an act of magnanimity by Parliament in order to move the local government area forward.

Hon. Eribo also stated that the council’s executive arm as earlier constituted by him remained in tact, and that all projects earmarked for execution and for which tenders had been made, would be vigorously pursued so as to accelerate the pace of infrastructural development in Egor Local Government Area.
