IGUOBAZUWA- The sum of Two million naira (N2,000.000) interest free revolving loan has been disbursed to women in Ovia South West Local Government Area by the Chairperson Women Development Programme Mrs. Christy Aighobahi.
The loan disbursement which was spread round the 10 wards of the local government area was meant for the women to run a business outfit of their choice and to be paid back within one year.
Addressing women at the occasion Mrs. Aighobahi noted that 75-80% of women in Nigeria was responsible for the production of food and yet this same category of people have remained most deprived and relegated.
The local government chairperson disclosed that this was part of her campaign promises to tackle poverty among women so as to liberated them from the shackles of helplessness and hopelessness.
Mrs. Aighobahi also noted that women are custodians of culture and that whatever cultural and moral values some of us have imbibed were passed on by our mothers who had a healthy conception of the dignity of womanhood and urged woman not to lose sight of this dignity but try to replicate same the contemporary generation.
Also speaking the chairman of the local government council Hon. Monday Aighobahi said his administration was totally committed to the empowerment of women who play vital role at home and in the general society, adding that the two Skills Acquisition Centres at Iguobazuwa and Udo will soon be equipped for their smooth take-off.
He appealed to all beneficiaries of the loan to make judicious use of the money by investing wisely on meaningful ventures as the loan is payable at the end of one year.
