Bayelsa AC Tasks Governors On Stewardship

YENAGOA- The Bayelsa Chapter of the Action Congress (AC) has urged governors of states in the south-south geo-political zone to render accounts of their stewardship regularly.

The party made the call at Yenagoa in a statement issued by its Secretary, Mr. Ebikibina Miriki and made available to newsmen.

It urged them to emulate Gov. Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers, who organied the Public Accountability and Quarterly Report Forum, where he briefed the people on government’s activities, especially on the income and expenditure profile.

The statement described Amaechi’s periodic meeting with stakeholders as ‘’a welcome development’’ that would ensure the delivery of the dividends of democracy to the people.
“This measure is an enviable achievement worthy of commendation and emulation by the governors of the states in the South-South geo-political zone,’’ it said.

The party stated that if massive development of the Niger Delta region was to be achieved, there must be the political will and drive for a purposeful and people-oriented leadership.

The party said the principle of collective responsibility in governance, anchored on transparency, accountability and probity should be emphasised by the political leaders of the zone at all times.

AC commended Amaechi for declaring publicly that the state received a total of N349.4 billion from various sources since Oct. 26, 2007.
