Council Moves To Ensure Clean Environment


IGARRA –The Director, Environmental Health and Head of Environmental Department in Akoko-Edo Local Government Council, Mr. Lawrence Aroboi has implored the people of the area to always troop out every sanitation day to clean their immediate environment and clear the drainage around them.


Mr. Aroboi said in recognition of the importance of clean environment capable of promoting economic growth and well being or the people of the area, the Chairman of the area Chief Johnson Emasealu regarded the general cleanliness of the area as one of his priorities.


The Director of Environmental Health therefore appealed to the people not to dump refuse and other wastes into the drains as that form the primary factor in drainage blockage which results in flooding which threatens lives and properties.


Mr. Aroboi warned people who engage in the dumping of refuse in drainage believing that water will wash away such refuse should desist from such act saying this unruly behaviour has inflicted agony and pains on residents of the area.


The Director informed them that the Local Government Council had put in place a Mobile Court who will give judgment to anyone found not complying or participating in the general cleanliness of their environment on sanitation day.


He commended the council chairman for his efforts in making the department of Environment very functional and sued for its sustenance.


To further create awareness to the inhabitants of this area, the Director of Environmental Department, had put in strategic places within the area some sign post with messages to create awareness on general cleanliness.
