YENAGOA- The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Bayelsa State , has called on the appropriate agencies to urgently repair two bridges on the Mbiama/ Kaiama axis of the East-West road. Mr. Ebidamowei Robert, the Corps Special Marshal in the area, expressed the concern on Sunday in Kaiama, headquarters of Kolokuma/ Opokuma local government area while flagging-off the enforcement of the 2008 ember months campaign.
The campaign is tagged, ‘’Say no to overloading.’’He stressed the need for the two bridges at Kaiama and Okoso to be rehabilitated to save them from total collapse, stressing that their deplorable conditions were gradually turning them into a death trap.
While drawing attention to “an unusual opening” at the head of the bridge at Kaiama, he said that the one at Okoso was vibrating. Speaking in the same vein, Mr. Ugo Ebikibina Secretary, Special Marshal, lamented the neglect of the East-West road, saying that government should pay attention to it to ensure the safety of motorist.
He cautioned motorists to avoid overloading their vehicles and obey traffic rules in order to make the highway accident free.
Reports say that several private and commercial vehicle drivers were cautioned during the campaign, which would be carried out randomly within Yenagoa and its environs.
