LAGOS- Four persons, including a 19-year-old housemaid, has appeared before the Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate’s Court for alleged involvement in armed robbery.
The prosecutor, Sgt Samuel Omoyeni said that Godwin Ogah, 26, Theophilus Araji, 39, Leo Mbanugo, 26 and Gloria Udom belonged to a robbery gang operating in Ikoyi as well as in Ogudu area of Lagos State.
He said that Ogah and Araji were security guards,while Udom was a maid to Mr. Anthony Onoh, the victim and Udom’s employer.
The prosecutor said that the guards conspired with Udom to rob Onoh in his Ikoyi apartment.
He said that on September 2, 2008, a deal was struck by the guards, Udom and their two accomplices, using Udom’s room to plan their strategy.
They eventually pounced on Onoh, dispossessed him of $80,000 and fled.
Omoyeni said that Onoh reported the matter to the police who arrested Udom and the two security guards, adding that the maid confessed to the crime.
Omoyeni also told the same court that Mbanugo was arrested on July 6, 2008, when his gang robbed one Christiana Omomadu of valuables estimated at about N10,000 at Ogudu.
He prayed the court to remand all the accused in prison, pending the advice from the State’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The Chief Magistrate, Ms A.O. Akinde, who did not take any plea, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison until November 11, 2008.
