Major Roads In P/Harcourt Turned Double Lanes

PORT HARCOURT- The Rivers Government says it will turn all major roads in Port Harcourt, the state capital, into two-lanes to ease traffic congestion.

The Commissioner for Works, Mr. Dakuku Peterside, told newsmen in Port Harcourt that some of the affected roads would include Ada-George, Rumuola and First Bank to Woji roads.

Peterside said the project was aimed at easing traffic in the city and that there were 100 ongoing road projects in the state.

He also said that government was constructing more roads in the rural areas than in the cities to make movement easier from one community to the other.

He said that under the scheme all township roads at Elele town had been constructed while similar work would be done for all roads in Bori and Ahoada.

Peterside said that government was not in a hurry to provide infrastructure, but would plan very well before embarking on any project.

On drains, the commissioner said the government was trying its best to tackle the problem and would provide drains in such a way that there would be no flood on the major roads.

He said that a firm had been contracted to carry out a survey of the major flood prone areas in Port Harcourt.

“We are determined to tackle the menace of flood in Port Harcourt that will now empty into the creeks,” he said.
