Flood Destroys Property Worth N1bn

 

Gusau - No fewer than 500 houses and property estimated at about N1 billion were destroyed by flood in some parts of Zamfara State this year.


Alhaji Sidi Sirajo, the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA), told newsmen in Gusau that nine local governments were affected by the disaster.


Sirajo gave the names of the local governments affected by the disaster as Gusau, Gummi, Anka, Maradun, Bukkuyum, Zurmi, Talata Mafara, Shinkafi and Birnin Magaji.


He said the state government had already spent about N25 million in providing relief materials to the victims of the flood with a view to cushioning the effect of hardship caused them.


The relief materials distributed by the state government, he said, included grains, building materials, plastics containers, blankets and other house hold utensils.


The secretary further said the government had acquired land for the resettlement of Jangeru community inShinkafi local government from a flood prone area to a safer environment.


Sirajo said the national emergency management agency had agreed to collaborate with the state government in relocating the community as soon as the rainy
