BENIN CITY – Edo State House of Assembly has considered clauses one to five of the Bill for a law to establish the Edo State Road Maintenance Agency law, with some Amendment reducing the number of the Board from eleven to seven embers.
Reporting progress reached at the Committee of the whole House, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Zakawanu Garuba stated that the membership of the Board was reduced to maximize fund for the Agency.
Rt. Hon. Garuba further disclosed that maintaining a large Board would make the Agency to spend a good part of the fund meant for capital projects for the servicing of members.
In the Agency, the members of the Board shall be appointed by the state government, subject to the confirmation of the state House of Assembly while a member each shall be appointed from the three senatorial districts of the state.
While the corporate office of the Agency shall be in Benin City according to the law, the eighteen local government headquarters in the state shall have zonal offices.
Also, there shall be a representative from the Ministries of Works, Justice and Environment while there shall be a registered Engineer and a Secretary to the Board who shall have not less than seven years experience.
However, further consideration of the Bill was adjourned to today Wednesday October 7, 2008.
