JOS - The Federal Government has announced plans to review the country’s public service rules.
Mr. Sunny Osuagwu, the Permanent Secretary in-charge of Establishment and Pensions, Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, made this known in Jos.
He spoke in an address to delegates at the 33rd meeting of the National Council on Establishments at the Plateau capital.
Osuagwu said: “The revised public service rules will be published shortly after the approval by the Federal Executive Council.”
“We are also taking necessary steps to update and publish the schemes of service as well as the circular booklets.”
“The civil service as a dynamic institution, needs to constantly review its processes and procedures, and reform its operations to keep pace with emerging challenges and global trends in governance.”
He stressed the need for the service to “demonstrate the willingness to embrace new technology, especially ICT to improve our work procedures.”
He said that the outcome of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council meeting comprising the government and the trade union would be deliberated upon during the meeting.
The Plateau Head of Service, Mr. Godfrey Mamzih, urged delegates “to carefully scrutinise all memos on their merit, taking into account the realities of our time”.
The 33rd meeting of the Council will peak on Thursday with the head of service of the federation and state heads of service in attendance.
