LAGOS - As the Super Eagles get set to trade tackles with Leone Stars of Sierra Leone on Saturday in the last game of the 2010 Nations/World Cup qualifiers first round, another charge has come out for skeptics to leave Coach Amodu Shaibu alone.
The latest verdict comes from FIFA/CAF media officer, Paul Bassey, who stated in a heated interview with brilafm.net that he wonders if Amodu’s doubters are true Nigerians.
“I really don’t know what some Nigerians want,” the man fondly called Sports Bassey began. “It amazes me that some Nigerians are not satisfied, that is the biggest problem in this country.
“It amazes me, because never in the history of the national team have we been able to win matches home and away, without conceding a single goal, but some Nigerians are not satisfied.
“Never has it happened, not even against Niger Republic or Benin, have we won home and away. Never has it happened, yet some people are still complaining.
“I sometimes wonder if they are from the same country with me, or whether they are watching a different match. Never have we had it so good for the Eagles. Never,” Bassey stressed.
He also took a look at recent demands for players of the under-23 squad, Dream Team 4 to be promoted to the Eagles, but insinuated that most of them are not actually the ages they claim.
