Scrabble Coach Hails National Championship

 

UYO - Previously unsung scrabble player, Emmanuel Umujose beat all comers to emerge tops at the International Scrabble Classics in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, defeating reigning African champion, Dennis Ikekeregor.


The continent’s number one player was forced top settle for second place, while current world number three, Wellington Jighere grabbed third position, as Umujose stole the show.


Reacting to the shock results, national coach, Akintunde Akinsemola said in an interview with brilafm.net that the championship is the best thing to happen to Nigerian scrabble in recent time.
“This is the best thing to happen for Nigerian scrabble in a very, very long time.

 

I am happy with the results and standard of play. It all goes to show that there is a bright future for Nigerian scrabble,” he enthused.


The Ondo State Football Association deputy chairman disclosed further that the sponsor has pledged total commitment to the championship, in a bid to take scrabble to the next level.
