MDGs Releases N1bn For Barracks’ Rehabilitation

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), released N1 billion for the rehabilitation of primary schools and health clinics in all the military barracks.

Alhaji Sani Gidado, the Chairman, Presidential Committee on Barracks Rehabilitation (PCBR), announced this on Thursday while inspecting the on going rehabilitation of Medical Reserve Services (MRS) at the Nigeria Air Force Station, Enugu .

“This is one of the clinics we are rehabilitating under the MDGs.

“Apart from the re-construction of the clinic building, we have also purchased all the needed medical equipment and facilities,” he said. Gidado said the committee was renovating four clinics and three schools belonging to the Air Force and others for the Navy and the Army under the MDGs projects.

He, however, expressed displeasure over the pace of work done by the contractor handling the Enugu MRS clinic project.

“This project must be completed before the end of this year, otherwise the contract will be revoked and we will not pay you any other money,” he told the contractor at the project site.

Newsmen reports that the committee had earlier inspected a block of eight classrooms at the Air Force Primary School , Enugu , under renovation. He said the committee spent about N8 million on the renovation and supply of desks to the school.

He said the project, when completed, would be equipped with computers to aid learning by the pupils.
