Thirteen people, including three children, today died in a motor accident at Dogon Kuka village, 45 kilometres away from Damaturu.
Eye witnesses said that the accident occurred when a fast moving pick up van lost control and collided with a bus.
This, according to the eyewitness, resulted in the death of 13 people on the spot. Newsmen gathered that 14 others injured in the accident, were taken to the General Hospital, Damagum.
Some of them were later transferred to the Specialist Hospital, Damaturu.
The state Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr. Emmanuel Ekekwe, confirmed the accident to newsmen. Ekekwe said that recklessness and overloading of vehicles by drivers on bad roads usually caused accidents.
He appealed to passengers to resist overloading and over speeding, saying: “This is what we have been preaching against during this Ember period.”
