IBADAN - Chief Obafunsho Ogunkeye, the Chairman of Oyo State branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, has called on the police to bring to book the killers of a lawyer, Mr Abayomi Ajayi.
Ajayi, 33, was shot dead by two unknown men at his residence in Akobo-Ojuirin area of Ibadan on Aug. 27.
Ogunkeye told newsmen in Ibadan that the way the lawyer was killed suggested that it was a case of assassination.
Ajayi, who was reportedly shot at close range, was said to be watching television with his wife in the sitting room when the assailants struck. “The men threatened to shoot his baby boy who was in the sitting room if the lawyer did not come out,’’ Ogunkeye quoted a source as saying.
Out of fear, Ajayi was reported to have come out to open the door.
The lawyer was shot in the arm after his wife had been locked up in a wardrobe, the source had said, adding that he was later shot several times in the chest, leading to his death.
The armed men were said to have gone away with two case files and Ajayi’s laptop.
Ogunkeye called on the police not to focus their investigation on the theft of the laptop and case files. “The theft of the items might just be a ploy to divert attention,’’ he said. ‘’It might be a ruse to make people believe it was an armed robbery incident.
