Impeachment allegation: EDHA summons BYC National Coordinator

By FRIDAY OBANOR

BENNIN CITY – Edo State House of Assembly has invited the National Co-ordinator and Director of Planning of Benin Youth Council (BYC), Mr. Amadi Obasuyi and Clifford Asemota to appear before it on Wednesday September 10, 2008 to explain the source of their information on the alleged plan by the Parliament to impeach Governor Oserheimen Osunbor.

Reacting to the letter sent to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Zakawanu Garuba on the subject matter, and read at the floor of yesterday’s plenary session, the Speaker noted that the Parliament as a House was committed to the actualisation of good governance in the state.

He therefore stated that the body would be doing the state a great good if they would be bold enough to appear before the House and tell the people of the state more on the proposed alleged impeachment.

Also yesterday, the House received a commendation letter from the Benin Monarch, Oba Erediauwa on the bill passed to increase the spending limit of council chairmen from N2 million to N10 million.

The Omo N’Oba in the commendation letter, stated that the increase in the spending limit would help the council helmsmen to execute more people oriented projects at the grassroots.

Responding to the letter, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Zakawanu Garuba thanked the Oba for the commendation, adding that whatever decision taken by the Parliament was for the good of the people and not for political reason.

Rt. Hon. Garuba further stated that the increase in the spending limit by the House was not to reduce the power of control of the governor as it is being insinuated in some quarters.
