WARRI-Delta State Sports Commission have shut down the Warri City Stadium for intense renovation works for next year’s Under-17 World Cup.
As a result of this, Premier League club, Warri Wolves, will now have to play their matches at the Oleh Township Stadium.
Warri Wolves’ media officer, Azuka Chiemeka told KickOffNigeria.com that the team are already camped in Oleh for the start of the 2008/09 League season.
“It is only for the early part of the season. I am sure we will return to Warri when the work is completed,” Chiemeka told KickOffNigeria.com.
Meanwhile, the Sports Commission chairman, Amaju Pinnick and members of the board have started a visitation program of stadia in the state.
“This visitation is to ensure that facilities are checked out and put in place for the World Cup next year,” Chiemeka said.
“They have already visited Okpe Township Stadium and those at Sapele and Oghara. A lot of them will be training pitches for teams at the World Cup,” Chiemeka told KickOffNigeria.com.
