We wish to thank those persons and groups that have accepted the concept of co-operation and allow room for review and reform to go on in the Nigerian oil industry which is one of the largest oil industries in the world, if not the largest and the best.
Petroleum scientists may be rating petroleum quality on Octane number but evidence has shown that Nigeria’s crude is most needed because of its running efficiency. Other nations like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Russia, Iran, Iraq, Venezuela, Angola and Libya may fall on this line of need with Nigeria.
Mr. President and his team know for real, the damages that have been done and as patriots , they are going to do everything possible so that we can reclaim our glory and redefine our intents for the future generations of this country.
This is our choice government. All hands must be on deck: We must all wake up to this call for a new social order. We must all approach our various problems one by one in a peaceful way and not by violence. Whatever may have deepened our anger must be left behind. This is a season of change. This is a season of reconciliation. This is a season of accountability. This is a season of responsibility. It is the season of reconstruction. It is the season of sacrifice. We all have a lot of work to do.
Observation shows that conflict in the Niger Delta did boost oil price, as evidenced of the fact that crude oil prices rose after reports of attacks on pipelines in Nigeria stoked fresh supply concerns. Oil prices have doubled in the past year, lifted by supply fears, a weak US dollar and speculators.
Supply fears have been exacerbated by claims from a Nigerian anti government group, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, which had sabotaged a Royal Dutch Shell pipeline. Nigeria is the world’s eight largest oil exporter and the largest in Africa, but since 2006, the militants have targeted the country’s oil infrastructure and oil production has been cut by a quarter.
We are of the view that Royal Dutch Shell should pay the compensation for damages to the Nigerian Government and for failures to comply to the terms of the oil business transaction with the Nigerian government on a clear accountable basis for so many years back with the previous governments.
It is considered now that foreign oil companies operating in Nigeria must accept the government control of their operations and all must comply to the set down rules to benefit both sides, otherwise these problems could linger on to affect world interest. It has been observered that almost all nations of the world seem to be affected already, although it is considered as recession or call it whatever, the energy base is affected and especially oil trade partners must focus on Nigeria now.
All that the people need is improved life styles. To avoid further damage to the world economics, discussions must go on and action must be taken to improve the standard of living in the exploration and production areas and compensation must be paid and efforts must be made now to assist dwellers especially in the Niger Delta region which houses Nigeria’s oil Industry.
There is an ongoing review effort and talks to resolve these problems by the Nigerian Government, but trade partners must join in this effort of Mr. President and his team to resolve the problems so that production could improve again even though it would not be immediate but all hands must be on deck now, And the smuggling of Nigeria’s oil should be stopped. The appropriate department concerned with this settlement efforts must intensify this process; take a correct census of the people affected by industrial hazards, and the locations affected, commit the operating oil companies to comply with the trade rules to provide amenities and infrastructures in these areas; the relocation effort’s must be intensified and complied to and to some people expecting compensations, they must be paid and let us all resolve these problems by co-operation
It is a problem that no one can run away from it, both Nigerian Officials and the foreign partners, otherwise this will further go along way to affect world economies and world interests. Countries like Britain. The United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Australia and China should intensify efforts to assist the Nigerian government to improve the poverty level of the people of Nigeria especially the less privileged and particularly those in the Niger–Delta region. To our fellow brothers and sisters, we are all in this problem together but through peaceful approaches we are sure to achieve the National Goal for this crusade: Nigerians must benefit from oil wealth. The Nigerian government has promised to utilize oil revenues for development of the people of the nation.
