BEIJING-Super Falcons head coach, Joseph Lapido (Jossy Lad), says tough luck was responsible for Nigeria’s second loss in the Olympic Games women football event.
Nigeria lost by a lone goal but dictated the pace and dominated play for most of the game but had an inexperienced Sarah Michael and Cynthia Uwak to blame for not wrapping up the game in the first half.
Ladipo said after the match that luck was not on the side of the Super Falcons.
“Luck wasn’t on our side. We played well against Korea but lost. We were definitely the better team today but once again we didn’t get anything out of the game. We just aren’t having any luck at the moment. But that’s football. Sometimes you win; sometimes you don’t, so I’ll take the defeat sportingly,” he told Fifa.com.
Germany’s coach, Silvia Neid described the Falcons as expectedly tough opponents.
“Nigeria were tough opponents, as we expected them to be. They had pace and defended incredibly well. They really battled their way into the game but after going 1-0 up we found some fluency.
“In the later stages it was the Nigerians, and not us, who wilted in the heat which made me very proud of my team.”
Brazil moved to the top of the group after a 2-0 win over North Korea.
