Rep Tasks Edo Govt On Communal Crisis

By KASSIM OMOMIA

AKOKO-EDO - A member representing Akoko-Edo federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Tunde Akogun has called on Edo state government to wade into the communal crisis involving Enwan and Akuku villages in Akoko-Edo local government of the state.

Akogun said in a chat with newsmen in Auchi that government’s intervention has become necessary following reports that over 50 persons have been allegedly declared missing in the clash over a disputed farm land.

He said he has made a passionate plea also to the Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro to assist in increasing security presence in the area in order to checkmate the escalating clashes.

Akogun who is also the Leader of the House of Reps appealed to the warring communities to cease fire and allow for dialogue and peace, noting that the clashes have created a large percentage of internally displaced persons within the entire Akoko-Edo land.

He said the call to all government agencies to intervene had become necessary because if immediate steps were not taken the clashes may further degenerate into real security risk., adding that he was also making efforts in Abuja to request the National Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials to innocent victims of the impasse.
