Three persons believed to be members of a five-man gang of burglars are now cooling off in police net over the recent burglaries in Awo Street, 1st East Circular area of Benin City. The gang said to have been terrorizing residents of the area.
CRIMEWATCH exclusively scooped operations at night, as they reportedly dispossessed residents of the area of their valuables, while they left many with various degrees of injuries.
One of the suspects, Nelson Abada allegedly caught by vigilante group along 1st East Circular road by Awo junction, CRIMEWATCH gathered, later led the police to 149, Awo Street where Sunday Ogiri and Lucky Egieahele were arrested in connection with the robbery incidences.
Giving names of other members of the gang now at large, as John Kelvis and Donah, the suspect was yet to lead the police to their possible hideouts when CRIMEWATCH visited the Edo State police command headquarters, Benin City where the suspects were detained.
In a chat with CRIMEWATCH, one of the suspects, Nelson Abada, stated that he was returning from a church service about 3 a.m on that fateful Saturday, August 2, 2008. Unaware of the alleged burglary in the area, as immediately he got to Awo Street junction some persons appeared from the dark and held him as they shouted thief after him. Commenting on the arrest, the command spokesman ASP Peter Ogboi, commended the efforts of the vigilante group in the area, maintaining that the suspects will be charged if incriminating evidences were discovered during police investigation.
