Ogun Moves To Tackle Power Problem

ABEOKUTA - Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun has inaugurated an 18-member Energy Council with a charge to urgently come up with ideas on how to ensure constant power supply in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Abeokuta, Daniel urged the council to introduce incentives that would encourage individuals and groups to invest in the power sector.

He said that the epileptic and insufficient power supply to the state from the national grid had adversely affected water supply to different parts of the state , saying that the “ engines being used by the state water corporation need about 10 megawatts to function effectively The governor said that the state government had ordered for low fuel power generating sets for the corporation “so that all water schemes state-wide can be activated and also serve as alternative to diesel powered generating sets”.

“The State Bureau of Electrical and Engineering Services has also been charged to get ready to transform into Electricity Distribution Company of Ogun State ,’’ he said.

Reports say that Daniel is the Chairman of the Energy Council, which also has the Commissioner for Water Resources, Chief Kola Onadipe, as Vice Chairman.
