Etuhu Denies Wigan Link

LONDON-Dickson Etuhu says he is happy at Sunderland despite speculation suggesting Rangers and Wigan Athletic have made attempts to sign him.

The Nigeria midfielder is back from injury and looking forward to making his mark despite the increased competition for places in midfield following the arrival of the likes of Teemu Tainio and Steed Malbranque.

After a frustrating campaign spent largely on the sidelines, Etuhu revealed Roy Keane has told him he is still in the Irishman’s plans.

“It’s all paper talk flying about,” he told setantasports.com. “I am happy at Sunderland. I don’t know if other clubs have made enquiries but, like I said, I am happy here.

“I have spoken to the manager and he wants me to stay, he wants me around. I am staying put unless they [Sunderland] want me out.”

Etuhu is desperate for a decent run of fitness after injuring the medial ligament in his knee last term.

“I have been out six months and it’s hard not being able to kick a ball,” he explained.

“But I am back to training next week.
