LG Boss Pledges Support To Journalists

KAFANCHAN - Mr. Gideon Morik, the Chairman of Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna state, has pledged to cooperate and support journalists to ensure transparency and accountability in his administration.

Morik, who made the pledge in an interview with newsmen in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, underscored the importance of publicity and public enlightenment in the society.

He noted that the media had a vital role to play in creating awareness on government policies and programmes.

He said: “In whatever level of governance you are, journalists should always be your friend so that people will have access to your activities.” Morik commended Journalists for its effective coverage of rural areas and called for the sustenance of the tempo.

He, however, advised journalists in the area to also identify with the problems, hopes and aspirations of their host community.

On his challenges in office, the chairman his seven months in office had been a period of learning period and policy evolution.

Morik, who was a former member of the state House of Assembly, said: “Now that I am part of the executive arm of government, I have an agenda for the development of this area.”

He said the biggest challenge facing the council was how to improve the lot of the people of the area through the provision of basic amenities and infrastructure.
