Police Arrest 11 Armed Robbery Suspects

SOKOTO - Police in Sokoto have arrested 11 suspects in connection with an alleged armed robbery in Arumi village in Isa Local government area of the state.
The Police Commissioner, Alhaji Mamman Tsafe, told newsmen in Sokoto that the incident occurred on July 24.

He said the alleged robbers had attacked the homes of two men, Alhaji Muhammad Nakususu and Alhaji Usman Adamu.

“They carted away cash totalling N1,352,200 from the two victims and several other valuables,” he explained.

He said the police, acting on a tip-off, arrested the alleged leader of the gang, Abubakar Adamu, and five other suspects, on the same day while the remaining five were apprehended the following day.

The commissioner also said that 10 of the suspects were directly involved in the armed robbery while the 11th allegedly sold a locally made pistol to the gang leader.

According to him, other members of the gang are still at large and are being trailed by the police. “Some of the suspects, including the gang leader have since confessed to committing this crime and others in the area,” he said. Tsafe said all the suspects had since been charged to court while a manhunt for the fleeing bandits was on course.

He disclosed that N68,950 was recovered from one of the suspects together with two locally made pistols, three implements, one live cartridge and six empty shells of ammunition.

Other items recovered from them were six CD players, seven pictures, an ID card, a black cap, a bunch of keys, one cutlass and three motorcycles, among others.

The commissioner further stated that the command was collaborating with its counterparts in the neighbouring Zamfara and Kebbi states to “nip in the bud some resurging armed banditry especially on market days. “We have gotten reports of such cases in some parts of the state and we will not rest until the entire state is made secure,’’ he vowed.
