ABUJA -The Minister of State for Air Transportation, Mr. Felix Hyat, says the ministry has arranged a meeting with oil marketers to find solution to aviation fuel shortage.
Hyat said this in Abuja at a meeting with members of the African Airlines Association.
He said for the past six months, jet fuel had been a problem to the Nigerian aviation industry.
“The country has the best Jet fuel in Africa. Our jet fuel is the best compared to other countries,” he said.
Hyat also noted that irregular power supply had adversely affected the operation of the aviation industry.
“The main source of our energy is generating plant which negatively affects the operations in the industry,” he said.
Hyat said the government planned to support local airlines.
“This is the first time aviation finance is taking a different dimension,” he said.
Mr. Christian Folly-Kossi, the Secretary General of the association, said that storage of fuel in the country would help the industry, Folly-Kossi said the airlines faced the problem of going to neighbouring countries to buy fuel.
“We have the crude oil, so I see no reason why we will not have refined oil,” he said.
Folly-Kossi said that Africa had the fastest developing airlines industry in the world and that availability of human resources was key to its growth.
