YOLA - Mr. Mijiyawa Kogama, the PDP Chairman in Adamawa, has said that contrary to speculations, Governor Murtala Nyako did not bribe the state legislators to forestall his impeachment.
Kogama told newsmen in Yola that the claims that the executive bribed the legislature over the impeachment threat were “totally false”.
“Let them go to any level, the Nyako I know will not give money or bribe to anybody to stall the impeachment threat.
“I did not strike any deal, either on behalf of Nyako or the party, to wave the impeachment threat but I only met with them as their leader,” he said.
Kogama said that PDP members of the state Assembly had planned to drop their earlier bill proposing the reduction of the tenure of elected local government officials from two and half years to one year.
He said that he held series of meetings with the 17 PDP lawmakers on the issue, adding that the legislators then resolved to drop the bill due to public opinion.
Commenting on the July 26 PDP primaries, Kogama said that the results were still with the National PDP Secretariat which conducted the polls.
“When we conducted the June 16 polls, there were a lot of complaints which attracted the attention of the party’s national leadership and compelled them to come down and conduct the primaries.
