KAFANCHAN (KADUNA) - Mr. Gideon Morik, the Chairman of Jema’a local government area in Kaduna, said that his council did not receive a single bag of fertiliser from the state government this year.
“We are yet to receive a single bag of fertiliser from the state government for the current cropping season,” Morik told newsmen in Kafanchan.
He, however, stated that the council purchased 56 trucks of assorted fertiliser worth N177 million with part of its excess crude oil revenue allocation.
He said that the council distributed 50 trucks of the fertiliser which included Urea and NPK to farmers in the area.
The chairman said that the remaining six trucks of SSP were still in the council’s “Bamako Store” for distribution to farmers who were yet to benefit from the last exercise “or we will reserve them for irrigation purposes”.
Morik said the council sold the commodity at a subsidised rate of N2,000 per bag instead of the N5,000 sold in the open market.
He challenged the state government to provide proof of allocation of fertiliser to the people in the area.
“I advise them to stop this media hype of deceit on fertiliser and the execution of other joint development projects being forced on us,” he said.
It will be recalled that Gov. Namadi Sambo had during the launch of this year’s fertilizer distribution exercise stated that about N7,000 billion was spent on the purchase of the commodity.
The State House of Assembly is investigating the distribution of fertiliser by the local councils and their use of the excess crude oil revenue.
Commenting on the cassava processing factories at Wazo and Jagindi villages, Morik pledged to complete them before the end of December with assistance from the state government.
