MALUMFASHI (KATSINA STATE) - An NYSC member, Miss Olatunde Makinwa, has trained 20 women and distributed seven knitting machines in Dayi village of Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Makinwa, from Lagos state, trained the women on knitting and sewing skills and also distributed 20 sets of primary school uniforms to pupils as part of her community development project.
At the presentation ceremony Makinwa urged future corps members to assist women in the rural areas toward becoming self-reliant.
She called on the government, corporate bodies and wealthy individuals to also assist in training women.
Makinwa said the beneficiaries were also trained in housekeeping and given health tips that would be beneficial to them and their families.
Speaking on the occasion, the Malumfashi Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Abdulaziz Danyari, warned the beneficiaries against selling the machines but to use their skills for the benefit of their families.
Danyari said that his administration was determined to improve the living condition of the people through the provision of social amenities.
He said the council had completed an electrification project at Na’alma village at the cost of N27 million and built a N56 million road at Burdugau.
The chairman also said that the council constructed two comprehensive health centres in Dayi and Karfi villages at the cost of N23 million each.
He said the council was constructing 15 housing units for the local government staff and had bought two buses to ease the transportation problems of day students in the area.
Danyari said the projects were executed within his four months in office and urged the people to live in peace and pray for the success of the administration.
Malama Hafsat Balarabe, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed appreciation for the gesture and urged others to emulate Makinwa.
