Bayelsa Vows To Eradicate Militancy

 

YENAGOA -Bayelsa government has assured the people of the state that the problem of militancy would soon be a thing of the past.


Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Gideon Ekeuwei, gave the assurance while
speaking at his induction as a patron of Boys Brigade at St. Peter’s Anglican Church
today in Yenagoa.


Reports say that Ekeuwei said that the situation currently being experienced was only a passing phase in the history of the state.


Ekeuwei likened the current situation to similar challenging moments nations go through in the phases of their development.


The SSG said that government would solicit the support of the Boys Brigade in its efforts to eliminate militancy in the area.


In his sermon, Ven. I.A. Kune said that the neglect of parental role and failure of leaders to set worthy examples were responsible for youth restiveness in the society.


He enjoined youths to see themselves as a blessed generation and not squander their future.
Also speaking, the South-South president of the Brigade, Justice Francis Tabai, said that total investment in youths remained a solution to militancy, youth restiveness and dented the image of the state.


Tabai also called for a change of strategy in the agitation for better deal for the Niger Delta region.


Chief Judge of Bayelsa, Justice Kate Abiri, called for the formulation of a youth development policy to address the problems facing the youths.


Earlier, the brigade’s president in Bayelsa, Ebisinte Awudu, urged the newly inducted patrons to always uphold the Boys Brigade charge.
