BENIN CITY – Old players of delisted Insurance FC who were pro-government are now crying foul against the technical crew of the Bendel Insurance FC for being asked to take part in the on-going screening exercise.
Some of the players who spoke to OBSERVER on Monday at the resumption of the second phase of the screening exercise averred that having been loyal to government position during the ownership crisis is enough reason to be giving automatic shirt.
“We have identified ourselves with this club since the crisis of ownership started believing that the truth will prevail one day for government to take over and that we maintain our status”.
“For this reason, we were not registered last season and we maintained our position on the side of government. Now that things have worked out, is it not enough for them to allow us register without screening? they asked.
However, reacting to this development, the club, head coach Edema Fuludu, affirmed that, as far as he is in charge every player must pass through the screening exercise to ascertain their level of fitness.
“I am here to achieve result and not failure, If am in charge of this club, I think I have the right to ascertain the level and quality of players to prosecute the league”.
“This, I believe can only be confirmed through screening which everybody must pass through no exception”, he maintained.
Speaking further, coach Fuludu reasoned that, “some clubs drop players at the beginning of every season when they discover that they have dropped form. There is no sentiment about that, whether you have been in the club for years or not”.
Corroborating the Head coach, the Technical Director Mr. Alabi Aisien reiterated that, “we are not aware of old Bendel Insurance players, what we have now is “new” Bendel Insurance FC and we are starting on a clean slate. Everybody irrespective of your level must screen to enable us know how fit you are there is no two ways about it”.
