AIB Braces Up To Global Aviation Challenges

 

 

LAGOS - Staff and management of the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) have resolved to redouble their efforts to position the agency for the challenges in global aviation community and attain the status of a foremost accident investigation body.


This was made known during a three-day corporate retreat, which was held at Gateway Hotel, Ijebu Ode, Ogun state to fine-tune plans for a national aviation safety conference, the agency staff reiterated their commitment to raising the standard of service delivery that will positively impact air safety, in the country.


The retreat produced a 10-point agenda that will guide the activities of the body in the next few years even as it provided a unique opportunity for the entire workforce to review their activities in the last 16 months that AIB has been in existence.


In his opening address, the Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Sam Oduselu urged the staff to use the opportunity to review the agency’s activities since inception and chart an enduring course for attaining its goals.


According to him; This is why this forum has become imperative and timely as it offers us tremendous opportunities to review, assess, align and move forward in our march to be the foremost accident investigation body in the world.’


Oduselu said the Bureau has in the last one year been recruiting well experienced and qualified professionals even as solid facilities are being provided to enhance its operations were being put in place.
He further noted that Experts in specialized fields were also around to facilitate the efforts at realigning the activities of the body to its goals and objectives.


The experts during interactive sessions took the participants through several topics including Work Ethics and Management Strategies, Information Technology and Management Systems and Human Factors in Accident Investigation, each unit made presentations, which included their action plans and the challenges they were facing in actualising their goals.


He hinted that the committee on the international conference being organised by the Bureau was prompted to accelerate action on its assignment, adding that the conference is expected to be the major outing in the aviation industry for the Bureau.


Among the resolutions according to him is the commitment ‘to change the general attitude to work in order to attain our set goals toward achieving our vision of becoming a foremost accident investigation agency in the world and imbibe specific work ethics that would enhance productivity.


“They also agreed to ‘work together as a family, eliminate frictions and align our activities with AIB’s vision, mission and corporate goals in order to build a very powerful brand AIB’ even as they pledged to ‘maintain effective communication in order to improve information flow and bridge communication gap within the Bureau.


Besides, they resolved to continue to focus on specialized training and retraining for AIB personnel to meet global challenges in the aviation industry,” he said.


Reviewing the success of the summit, Dr Oduselu said; “We have been able to examine our activities as a corporate entity in relations to our mission and corporate goals.
