SSG calls for collective effort on cleanliness

BENIN CITY - The Secretary to Edo State Government, Dr. Joseph Akhigbe yesterday in Benin called for collective efforts in the cleanliness of the state in all its ramification.


Speaking at a training workshop organised for workers of Operation Clean Up Edo State, he described the exercise as part of the overall strategy to stimulate public interest and co-operation with regard to cleanliness for the good of all the citizenry.


Dr. Akhigbe, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to State Government, Mr. Edwin Enobakhare, said the gains of having a clean environment could not be over-emphasised. hence Edo State must compete with other states in the aspect of cleanliness towards promoting healthy living and beautification of cities.


He expressed belief that the workshop would go a long way to orientate and energise the participants for greater service and achievement, affirming that the state government was committed to rid the state of filths and enthrone a culture of cleanliness among the people.


In her remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Mrs. Winifred Onyeowu advised the participants to take the seminar seriously and apply the knowledge obtained to enhance their performance on their various duties.


Welcoming guests earlier, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Sanitation and Beautification, Hon. (Mrs.) Pat Adamu, said the unique features of the programme was the unfolding of the Code of Conduct of the Task Force on Operation Clean Up Edo State so that its members would be familiar with it.


She thanked the state governor for calling the members back after the pilot phase and extending the mandate of the Task Force for another six months.


Several lectures were delivered at the workshop including “Cleanliness Is Next To Godliness”, by the Acting General Manager of Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), Deacon Pius Ehimen and “ Sanitation and Beautification, The Effect On You And The State”, by the Assistant Director, Administration and Capacity Building of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Mr. Charles Udom, who represented the Zonal Director of the Authority.


Other lectures delivered were “While Working On The Road: Safety Tips” by the Training Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC),Benin Sector Command, Mr. L.B. Ajibola; “ Cleanliness: Effect On You And The State”, by Mr. Emma Oni and “Public Health Law”, by a Public Health Consultant, Dr. Matthew Enoghoyia.
